WoW RIP?

I think I'm done with World of Warcraft for awhile. More than awhile. I haven't actually cancelled the account yet, but that will happen soon.

When Wrath of the Lich King is released in the fall, there's a chance I'll come back.

Part of the reason is that I enjoy exploring new worlds while gaming. WoW has an enormous and varied set of environments, but, it's still the same universe with the same basic gameplay.

Wow. I thought that was like quitting heroin. Not easy to just step away from. What was it that changed? Did you reach a limitation in the software that made it uninteresting?

After your character gets to the maximum level (currently 70), the game's emphasis moves toward grouping with other players. To do that well, you need practice, and preferably a consistent group. While I did find this fun and rewarding, it takes time and persistence to get a good group together.

Video games are like most other forms of entertainment in that some folks focus almost entirely on one genre or performer (or game), while others drift in and out. With video games at least, the variety is a big part of my fun. I had grown a little tired of the same setting, and the same general game play.

That combination led to my disinterest.

The folks who really stick with the game are usually the ones who have embraced the social aspect. They usually make strong friendships online which adds to the fun on a few levels.

I was never really into that on WoW. I had (and have) acquaintances, but I generally don't care if I ever have contact with any of them again.
