I just tried it five times, and it nailed the symbol each time. The last few times, I didn't touch the mouse or keyboard until clicking the bubble.
How does it know?

first notice that the symbols get scrambled every time you click.
Then try 11; you'll end up with 9. But before you click the bubble, try 12... you'll end up with 9. 13? you'll end up with 9.
Now start with a higher number, and check out the symbol: the answer you come up with will have the symbol as 9.
click it, and it will guess your symbol, and then scramble the symbols again. No matter how many times you click it, you'll always get the symbol for 9.
Ah! I didn't notice that the symbols changed. That may have had something to do with the beer and bourbon I'd sampled earlier in the night.
